SUMMER SESSION 2015

2015-2016 Youth Program

32 weeks of dance instruction

Classes designed for students 2 1/2 years old and up. The program will provide a place for students to engage in high quality training in a stimulating, fun and energetic setting, encouraging students to grow not only as dancers, but as individuals. Our teachers not only enjoy educating and inspiring young dancer students, but are highly esteemed professional dancers with extensive background in various forms of dance.

 

REGISTER before August 31 and registration fee will be waived.

Class Descriptions

 

Creative Movement 
Ages 2 1/2 - 3
Creative movement is catered to our younger dancers. Self-discipline, self-confidence and socialization skills are encouraged through various exercises introducing rhythm, coordination and basic dance steps. Props are utilized to enhance participation and creativity.

*students must be potty trained

 

Pre-Dance (Ballet/Jazz) 
Ages 4-5
Pre-Dance prepares students for a traditional ballet class while still including elements of creative movement and an upbeat atmosphere. This class is great preparation for future training in all other disciplines.

 

Hip Hop 
Ages 4-6
Students will learn the fundamental moves of hip hop, while having fun in this high energy class. Musicality, coordination, basic footwork. improvisation and style will be highly emphasized.

 

Hip Hop 
Ages 7-9
Hip Hop provides a structured method of learning various Hip Hop dance movements in a fun-filled and vibrant class environment. It will focus on dance moves seen today as well as develop coordination, body awareness and self-esteem.

 

Boys B-boy/Hip Hop 
Ages 5-8
This class is designed for boys to learn floor and footwork, freezes and tricks. The movement will be broken down so students can practice the steps and perfect the movement. Strength is developed through conditioning exercises that prepare the dancer for a progressive learning atmosphere.

 

Ballet and Jazz 
Ages 6-8
This class teaches children the beginning fundamentals of ballet and jazz. Ballet barre work, stretching, across the floor and center activities will introduce technique and vocabulary.

 

Hip Hop 
Ages 7-12 
Hip Hop provides a structured method of learning various Hip Hop dance movements in a fun-filled and vibrant class environment. It will focus on dance moves seen today as well as develop coordination, body awareness and self-esteem.

 

Modern 
Ages 8-12
Designed for the more creative spirit, Modern will teach the fundamental concepts and practices of modern dance technique; weight, suspension, release, strength, flexibility and spatial awareness.

 

Hip Hop 
Ages 10-12
Students will progress into learning more advanced technique and choreography, drawing on the movements taught in earlier classes as well as building a larger vocabulary of steps. *One year of previous dance experience required

 

Level Descriptions

 

Ballet I 
Ages 9-12 
Develop the strength and elegance of a ballet dancer, while learning basic technique. Emphasis will be placed on clean lines, positions and proper alignment. Ballet I is a structured ballet class consisting of a full ballet barre, center combinations, and across the floor phrases. Ballet is strongly recommended, as it teaches the fundamentals of all dance forms.

 

Jazz I
Ages 9-12 
Jazz I is a high energy class that focuses on rhythm and body isolations. Students will develop a foundation of basic jazz technique including jumps, turns, across the floor progression, and stylized movement.

 

Jazz/Contemporary I
Ages 9-12 
A jazz and lyrical technique class with a challenge of contemporary musicality. Students will learn to move fluidly with their bodies while expressing the movement.

 

Ballet II 
Ages 9-12 
Building on what was learned in Ballet I, the number of steps is increased. Placement is refined along with the correct use of arms and heads. Larger jumps are emphasized.

 

Jazz II 
Ages 9-12 
Class includes a proper warm-up, stretches, isolations, across-the-floor progressions, and combinations. Movements become increasingly more complex and intricate.

 

Ballet II and III 
Ages 9-13 
Correct placement and turn-out continue to be emphasized as the class begins to move at a faster pace.

 

Jazz/Contemporary II and III
Ages 9-13 
A jazz and lyrical technique class with a challenge of contemporary musicality. Students will learn to move fluidly with their bodies while expressing the movement. Class will include a full warm-up, followed by across the floor movement and a final combination.

 

Ballet III
Ages 10-13 

Ballet III is an expansion on Ballet II, moving at a faster pace and following a syllabus of more advanced technique. Proficiency in barre exercises, adagio, pirouettes, petite allegro and grand allegro are required for this class. Quality of movement is highly emphasized.

 

Jazz/Contemporary III
Ages 10-13 
A jazz and lyrical technique class with a challenge of contemporary musicality. Students will learn to move fluidly with their bodies while expressing the movement. Class will include a full warm-up, followed by across the floor movement and a final combination.
