Texas CHL - LTC Plus
Class Price
Texas Concealed Handgun Licensing is controlled by the CHL Division of the Texas Department of Public Safety. An integral facet of this licensing process is the classroom instruction and firearms proficiency assessment provided by DPS Licensed CHL Instructors. SAFE RANGE has a team of qualified, professional and courteous instructors that will help you be successful in this portion of the licensing process. SAFE RANGE also has the most comfortable and inviting training facility to make your learning experience a pleasant and rewarding endeavor. If you have absolutely no firearms experience, we have the most modern virtual firearm facilities available to advance your skills.
You will have fun while you enhance your abilities. We also have NRA courses available for your continuing training activities.
The overall objective of the CHL course is to educate students on the responsibilities and laws applicable to concealed handgun license holders. Specific objectives are outlined at the beginning of each training module. The course is designed in modules that include:

Module 1 - Laws that relate to weapons and to the use of deadly force.
Module 2 - Handgun use and safety.
Module 3 – Non-violent dispute resolution.
Module 4 - Proper storage practices for handguns with an emphasis on storage
practices that eliminate the possibility of accidental injury to a child.
Course Examination:
The student will be given the current DPS CHL student test and the student must complete the test independently. The proficiency demonstration will be conducted by a certified Texas CHL Instructor using the current course of fire, as determined by the Department of Public Safety. A passing score of 70% is required for the written and the proficiency demonstration for successful completion.

Virtual Beginner Pistol
SAFE RANGE can raise your confidence level and ability through an outstanding “Virtual Beginner Pistol” course.
This Safe Range Course is designed to provide the student with the training necessary to safely handle and shoot a hand gun. The classroom portion of the course provides an insight to safety elements for handling and storing a firearm, the fundamentals of handgun shooting, dominant eye recognition, learning the elements of a proper stance and ammunition identification along with their components. Hands on practice of the information offered in the course will be provided through an exciting and realistic virtual shooting system. You will enjoy and learn through this lifelike virtual program. Students will receive a Safe Range course completion certificate.

NRA FIRST Steps Pistol is designed to provide a hands-on introduction to the safe handling and proper orientation to one specific pistol action type. This course is about three hours long and includes classroom and range time learning to shoot a specific pistol action type. Students will learn the NRA’s rules for safe gun handling; the particular pistol model parts and operation; ammunition; shooting fundamentals; cleaning the pistol; and continued opportunities for skill development. Students will receive the Basics of Pistol Shooting handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet, FIRST Steps Course completion certificate.

NRA Basic Range Safety Officer
This course is approximately nine hours long and is conducted in a classroom and at a shooting facility. Range Safety Officer candidates will learn roles and responsibilities of an RSO; Range Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs); range inspection; range rules; range briefings; emergency procedures; and firearm stoppages and malfunctions. Each Range Safety Officer Candidate will receive an RSO Student Study Guide, a Basic Firearm Training Program brochure, and a NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure.

NRA Chief Range Safety Officer
Prerequisite: Must be an NRA Certified Range Safety Officer. Sessions include standard operating procedures, inspections, emergency procedures, firearm stoppages and malfunctions, safety briefings. Students demonstrate organizational and teaching skills via participation in practical exercises and complete an open book exam. Students will receive NRA Basic Range Safety Officer lesson plans, basic student packet and basic course presentation CD.

NRA Personal Protection in the Home
Prerequisite: This course is for law-abiding adult citizens, as defined by applicable federal, state, or local law, and experienced shooters (shooters able to show mastery of the basic skills of safe gun handling, shooting a group, and cleaning the firearm). Prospective participants can demonstrate that they have the requisite knowledge, skills, and attitudes by producing an NRA Basic Pistol Course Certificate, NRA FIRST Steps Course Certificate or National Rifle Association pistol competitive shooting qualification card, military DD 214 with pistol qualification, or passing the Pre-Course Assessment.
Description: This is course is approximately eight-hours long. Students should expect to shoot 100 rounds of ammunition. Students will learn basic defensive shooting skills, strategies for home safety and responding to a violent confrontation, firearms and the law, how to choose a handgun for self-defense, and continued opportunities for skill development. Students will receive the NRA Guide to the Basics of Personal Protection in the Home handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, the Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet, and course completion certificate.
