M*A*S*H* Theme Party

This theme is not recommended for a bunch of bean counters or anyone without a sense of humor. This is a frat party for grown ups who want to revisit those fun days of the 70s and 80s without endangering any body parts.

We suggest you encourage guests to wear fatigues and t-shirts or any outrageous costume that would be appropriate. Some of our guests in the past have shown up in Russian General regalia with 20 pounds of medals—it’s all for laughs. Depending on budget, decor can be spartan or elegant. It's all a lot of camouflage netting and tenting materials—campy vignettes of first aid stations at the bars and food stations. For tables, we use several 40-gallon barrels painted in military OD and sometimes stencil our client’s logo on them. Additional ambience is created with lighting effects and draped fabrics.

‘Homemade still contraptions’ ala ‘Hawkeye Pierce’ are are used with martini luges and the buffet lines are decorated with various military items; canteens, web belts and wooden ammo crates. Canned beer can be iced down and served from metal tubs to enhance that ‘operating out in the field’ ambience.

MASH impersonators meet/greet guests at the door passing out medical scrubs and surgical hats; dogtags and other party items. We usually try to arrange well in advance for one of the main/VIP guests to come in drag as ‘Corporal Klinger’. It’s also important to have photographers on hand for the event—this will a party to be remembered—and documented on film!

Fans of the 70s and 80s era also like classic rock for dancing. A good DJ is key to keeping the action hot but an live band is also a great option. And after a few trips to the martini luge the guests will probably take over the entertainment themselves!
